Ozone Technology

Ozone (O3) is a highly reactive gas composed of three oxygen atoms. It is both a natural and a man-made product that occurs in the Earth’s upper atmosphere (the stratosphere) and lower atmosphere (the troposphere). You have probably heard of the “ozone layer,” approximately 6 through 30 miles above the Earth’s surface, reduces the amount of harmful UV radiation reaching the Earth’s surface.

SANIZONE produces ozone when O2 is energized and split into two monatomic (O1) molecules. The monatomic oxygen molecules then collide with O2 molecules to form ozone, which is O3. Thus, ozone consists of O2 with a loosely bonded third oxygen atom that is readily available to attach to and oxidize other molecules. This additional oxygen atom makes ozone a powerful oxidant that destroys microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, organic and inorganic compounds making ozone a powerful disinfectant.

Ultraviolet Technology

The sun emits energy over a broad spectrum of wavelengths: visible light that you see, infrared radiation that you feel as heat, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation that you can’t see or feel. UV radiation has a shorter wavelength and higher energy than visible light. Scientists classify UV radiation into three types or bands: UVA, UVB, and UVC. Thankfully the third one, UVC, is completely absorbed by the ozone layer and atmosphere. If it where not, life on earth could not exist. Hence when it comes to sterilization, it is a formidable weapon against viruses and bacteria.

The use of ultraviolet as a disinfection method consists on using short-wavelength ultraviolet (ultraviolet C or UVC) light to kill or inactivate microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions. The utilization of UV light for disinfection has been an accepted practice since the mid-20th century. It is used in a variety of applications, such as food, air, and water purification.
